Choosing Lithium Batteries for Electric Motorcycles and E-Scooters

Electric motorcycles and e-scooters are mainstream for daily commuting, and lithium batteries—their core power source—directly affect range, power, safety, and lifespan. Ordinary users often struggle with complex parameters (voltage, capacity, cell type), leading to poor choices. For electric motorcycles, prioritize matching battery voltage, capacity, and cell type to vehicle power and needs. Capacity selection depends on total energy (Wh = Voltage × Capacity), as it directly determines range. Ordinary electric motorcycles consume 10-12Wh/km. Increase capacity by 10-15Ah in sub-zero temperatures (NCM cells lose 10-15% capacity, LFP 20-30%). NCM cells excel in low temperatures (70% capacity at -20°C) and portability; LFP offers higher safety and longer life (≥2000 cycles) but is heavier.

E-scooter battery selection focuses on portability and compatibility (most are built-in). 36V fits 250-500W civilian models; 48V is for high-power off-road types (check battery compartment fit). Choose 10-12Ah for ≤10km/day (15-25km range), 15-25Ah for longer commutes or commercial use. Always measure the battery compartment size before purchase.

NCM cells are common for e-scooters (lighter: 2.5-3kg for 36V 15Ah vs. 3.5-4kg LFP), while LFP is better for high temperatures/outdoor parking. Qualified batteries must have a BMS (overcharge/over-discharge/short-circuit protection) and certifications (CE, UN38.3); avoid cheap unbranded batteries.

Universal tips: Choose reputable cell brands (stable performance, longer life); match discharge rate (10-20C for electric motorcycles, 5-10C for e-scooters); verify genuine capacity via regular channels and test reports if needed.
